The Michiana area: A great place to live and work

Saint Joseph Regional Medical Center is proud to call the Michiana area home. Within Michiana you can find big-city excitement as well as small-town charm. While our medical facilities are located throughout Saint Joseph and Marshall counties, our main medical centers are located in South Bend and Plymouth.

South Bend, the third largest city in Indiana, has many urban amenities while still preserving a midwestern atmosphere. Although South Bend is its own metropolis, it is only 90 miles from Chicago and a few hours from Indianapolis.

Plymouth, located in Marshall County, offers a unique experience of its own. You can find numerous golf courses, fish-filled lakes, fine dining, antique shops and cozy inns. One of its top attractions is its annual festival held every Labor Day weekend.

When the city life gets to be too much, Amish Acres, Shipshewanna Flea Market or the Round Barn Theatre are nearby. Michiana also offers Potato Creek State Park and several city and county parks.

Other attractions you won’t want to miss include the Studebaker National Museum, Snite Museum of Art, South Bend Symphony Orchestra, Morris Performing Arts Center, Granger Fest, Potawatomi Zoo, Shiojiri Niwa Japanese Gardens, and the famous Farmer’s Market. For the sports enthusiast and active person, there is the College Football Hall of Fame, East Race Waterway, Silver Hawks Minor League Baseball and of course—Notre Dame football.

Michiana offers quality education, including both public and private schools from preschool through high school. It also provides higher levels of education, including the University of Notre Dame, Indiana University at South Bend, St. Mary’s College, Holy Cross College, Ancilla College and Ivy Tech State College, just to name a few.

With all of this and more to do in Michiana, it is a great place for educational, cultural and recreational activities. And with one of Saint Joseph locations around almost every corner, you can feel safe knowing that medical attention is always just a step away.
