In honor of October being National Breast Cancer Awareness Month, The South Bend Chocolate Company is giving free chocolate bars to women who schedule their mammograms this month aboard SJRMC’s Mobile Medical Unit (MMU), the hospital’s 40-foot-long clinic on wheels.
SJRMC will kick off the program on Tuesday, October 1, at The South Bend Chocolate Factory (3300 West Sample Street). There, the MMU will be set up from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. offering mammograms. Scheduled appointments are preferred, and women must be at least 40 years of age and have a healthcare provider who can receive the results of the mammography scans.
The state-of-the-art MMU houses a medical exam area and a mammography unit, plus an area for intake, information, and health education. By providing healthcare services “on the go”, the MMU allows SJRMC to meet the needs of individuals who may not have transportation or regular access to medical offices or clinics.
The MMU uses the same financial guidelines as the SJRMC hospital system, and Medicaid, Medicare, and most insurance plans are accepted. In addition, patients who need financial assistance have the opportunity to access state and federally funded insurance plans or other related programs.
Details and locations where the MMU will be located throughout the month of October can be found on the SJRMC website at www.sjmed.com/mobile-medical-unit. To schedule an appointment, please call 574-247-5400.
