Health Insurance Services Ready to Assist Community
Saint Joseph Regional Medical Center (SJRMC) Health Insurance Services is now open at locations in Mishawaka and Plymouth to help members of our community understand the health insurance options available to them, as enrollment for the Health Insurance Marketplace begins effective October 1, 2013.
About the Affordable Care Act The Affordable Care Act requires everyone legally living in the U.S. to have health insurance beginning January 1, 2014. It also gives millions of individuals with too little or no insurance access to health plans at different cost levels.
About the Health Insurance Marketplace Beginning October 1, 2013, individuals and families will be able to view plans at a new online Health Insurance Marketplace, also known as an “Exchange," at www.healthcare.gov. The Marketplace is designed to make buying health coverage easier by comparing plans side by side, in simple language and with no fine print. Coverage will include doctor visits, hospital stays, wellness care, prescriptions, emergency services, maternal and newborn care, pediatric care and more. Certain preventive care services will be provided at no additional cost and patients cannot be turned away due to pre-existing conditions.
Navigating the System Fewer than 1 in 4 individuals are aware or have enough information about the Affordable Care Act. That's whySJRMC has established two centers where individuals and families learn more about their health insurance options from licensed health insurance agents, as well as enroll for coverage in the Marketplace.

SJRMC is committed to being a resource for individuals and families in our region, especially for those who are most vulnerable. It is estimated that approximately up to 15,000 individuals in our region will need to enroll in some type of health insurance plan to avoid federal penalties. Through our hospitals, clinics, physician offices and Outreach Services initiatives, we will work to ensure every member of our community has access to the coverage and care they need.
