Plymouth Family & Internal Medicine Expanding to Downtown Location
You can help us provide care for those in the community who need it most. The Foundation of SJRMC is pleased to announce that the 13th Annual Faithful Lives Celebration will be held on November 16, 2011, at the Hilton Garden Inn on the Campus of Saint Mary’s College.

The focus of this year’s celebration is the 25 years of service that the Sister Maura Brannick, CSC Health Center has provided to the residents of St. Joseph County, and particularly the working poor and uninsured living on the west side of South Bend. Formerly the Saint Joseph Health Center, the clinic on Chapin Street and Western Avenue was renamed the Sister Maura Brannick, CSC, Health Center on October 13, 2006, in honor of Sister Maura Brannick vision and drive to create a health care center in 1986 for those in need and who simply have nowhere else to turn.

“I never wish to take any credit for the Health Center,” said Sister Maura. “If this community and Saint Joseph Regional Medical Center wouldn’t have gotten behind it, it would not exist. This is where I got to really see poverty and people with absolutely no healthcare. Consequently, they had no hope, so this inspired in me the need for a health center. I didn’t have any money – just an idea.”

Before she retired in 2008, Sister Maura received many prestigious honors for her dedication to those in need on South Bend’s West Side. In 1991, former President George Bush honored her with the Points of Light Award and in 2008 former Indiana Governor and South Bend Mayor Joe Kernan presented her with the Sagamore of the Wabash – a designation considered to be the highest honor bestowed in the State of Indiana.

Its humble beginnings were in a 400-square-foot, two-bay garage on Washington Street and now its current location at Chapin and Western is over 10,000-square feet. In its 25 years, the Health Center has provided over 205,000 patient visits and dispensed over 387,000 prescriptions. The Health Center has always relied on volunteers and in 25 years, they have logged over 194,000 volunteer hours from community members and students and over 29,000 from local physicians.

Each year, the Faithful Lives Celebration benefits SJRMC community outreach initiatives. SJRMC is continually working to improve the health of its communities, and especially the at-risk, uninsured and underinsured populations. Proceeds from this year’s event will provide the Sister Maura Brannick, CSC, Health Center’s patients with needed medical services and medication assistance, as well as dental and eye care.
