Saint Joseph Regional Medical Center (SJRMC) has been named as one of the nation’s “Most Wired” hospitals, according to the results of the 2012 Most Wired Survey released in the July issue of Hospitals & Health Networks (H&HN) magazine. Recognized for the second year running, SJRMC is the only hospital in Northern Indiana to achieve this recognition, and one of seven in the State of Indiana.

“Saint Joseph Regional Medical Center is proud, for the second year in a row, to add ‘Most Wired’ to our list of accomplishments. This designation reinforces our commitment to providing the best possible care by pioneering the use of leading technologies to enhance patient services, clinical quality and patient safety,” said Albert Gutierrez, president and chief executive officer of Saint Joseph Regional Medical Center. “Our spiritually guided principles drive us to achieve excellence at every step, on behalf of everyone we serve. The technologies we employ today will expand our horizons tomorrow.”

Published by the American Hospital Association, H&HN’s “Most Wired” assesses hospitals and health systems based on the progress of adoption, implementation and use of information technology in four critical areas: infrastructure, business and administrative management, clinical quality and safety, and clinical integration.

“As shown by these survey results, hospitals continue to demonstrate how IT not only can be used to improve patient care and safety but it is also a means to improve efficiency,” says Rich Umbdenstock, president and chief executive officer of the AHA. “Hospitals receiving ‘Most Wired’ recognition are truly representative of our nation's hospitals and systems—rural and urban, small and large, teaching and non-teaching, and critical access hospitals geographically dispersed.”

The survey, conducted between January 15 and March 15, asked hospitals and health systems to answer questions regarding their IT platforms and initiatives. Of the 662 organizations that participated nationwide, 154 met the “Most Wired” criteria. The July H&HN’s cover story detailing the results can be found at www.hhnmag.com.
