SJRMC - Plymouth Earns ‘Top Performer on Key Quality Measures’ Recognition from The Joint Commission
Saint Joseph Regional Medical Center – Plymouth (SJRMC – Plymouth) was named as one of the nation’s Top Performers on Key Quality Measures by The Joint Commission, the nation’s largest accrediting agency for healthcare organizations.
Recognized by The Joint Commission for its exemplary performance in using evidence-based best practices, which have been shown to improve care, SJRMC – Plymouth is one of 620 hospitals in the United States, and eleven hospitals in Indiana to earn the distinction of Top Performers on Key Quality Measures.
Honored for its achievement and excellence in the categories relating to pneumonia and surgical care, SJRMC – Plymouth has met or exceeded two 95percent performance thresholds relating to accountability data provided to The Joint Commission for the 2011 calendar year. Such data is required to be reported quarterly by the Centers for Medicaid and Medicare.
For the first threshold, hospitals were required to achieve a performance level of 95 percent or higher on their total accountability measures composite score. To secure its recognition, SJRMC – Plymouth achieved a total composite score of 98.9 percent. For the second threshold, SJRMC – Plymouth met or exceeded a 95 percent performance target for each and every accountability measure for which they reported. Such measures mean that SJRMC – Plymouth consistently implements evidence-based practices, which provides excellence in overall patient care processes.
For surgical care, an example of an evidence-based practice is the requirement that patients receive the appropriate antibiotic one hour before surgery, and for pneumonia, that patients receive the appropriate antibiotic within a 6-hour treatment window.
“When we raise the bar and provide the proper guidance and tools, hospitals have responded with excellent results,” says Mark R. Chassin, M.D., FACP, M.P.P., M.P.H., president of The Joint Commission.
“We understand what matters most to patients is safe, effective care. That’s why Saint Joseph Regional Medical Centerhas made a commitment to positive patient outcomes through evidence-based care processes,” said Albert Gutierrez, president and chief executive officer of Saint Joseph Regional Medical Center. “We are honored to be named to the list of The Joint Commission’s Top Performers on Key Quality Measures.”
