SJRMC to Host 'Heart Smart Health Fair' February 16
Saint Joseph Regional Medical Center (SJRMC) and Saint Michael and All Angel’s Episcopal Church will be hosting a free Heart Smart Health Fair on Saturday, February 16thfrom 10:00 am to 1:00 pm at Saint Michael’s Church, located at 53720 Ironwood Road in South Bend.
The health fair is in honor of February being American Heart Month, a nationwide effort aimed at battling cardiovascular disease by educating Americans on what we can do to live heart-healthy lives. Heart disease, including stroke, is the leading cause of death for men and women in the United States.
Held in conjunction with Saint Michael’s free monthly luncheon, the focus of the fair is to help members of the community recognize their own risk factors, and to provide encouragement on how to they can make healthy changes to lower the risk of developing heart disease.
To assist, SJRMC’s Outreach Services will provide screenings, and will feature booths to check blood sugar, blood pressure, and body fat, as well as a tobacco booth for both oxygen and carbon monoxide testing. The Dental Center of South Bend will be available to address dental related questions, and Preventive Medicine, PC will provide short onsite shoulder massages.
Also, SJRMC’s Mobile Medical Unit (MMU) will be onsite to perform mammograms. Scheduled appointments are preferred, but walk-ins will be welcomed as time permits. The MMU uses the same financial guidelines as the SJRMC hospital system, and Medicare, Medicaid, and most insurance plans are accepted.
