2000—November
Saint
Joseph’s Regional Medical Center, with its hospitals in South Bend
and Plymouth, and Ancilla healthcare, Saint Joseph Hospital’s parent
company, merged in November 2000, to become the largest Catholic health
care network in north central Indiana.
2001—February
Saint Joseph Health Center opens the new Dental Clinic.
2001—August
The High
Observation Unit at Our Lady of Peace is operational. The
four-bed unit is devoted to patients requiring frequent assessment, intervention
and close supervision.
The ground
is broken for a new medical/surgical unit at the Plymouth campus. Expansion
will increase the number of beds from 21 to 30.
2001—September
SJRMC—South Bend opens the area’s only dedicated Stroke Unit. The
staff is specifically trained to handle stroke patients and perform
ER assessment.
The surgery
expansion at Edison Lakes Medical Center is completed. The new area
will house two additional surgical suites along with a dedicated
Litho room, specifically for lithotripsy procedures.
2001—October
The opening of To Your Health at University Park Mall announced. Customers
can attend classes, get health risk assessments, get a massage or purchase
retail goods.
SJRMC—South Bend is named Top Orthopedic Hospital in the
state of Indiana by HealthGrades.
2001—December
The Joint Camp opens at SJRMC—South
Bend. The program is for joint replacement patients who recover in
a group atmosphere with a care partner/coach.
2002—January
Edison Lakes Eye Surgery Center opens. The new area consists
of two procedure rooms and a Yag laser suite designed specifically
for the unique flow of patient having eye surgery. ELMC performs
38 percent of all eye surgeries in an 11-county region.
2002—March
Plans are underway for imaging centers at Dugdale and Edison Lakes
Medical Center.
2002—April
Land near Edison Lakes Corporate
Park is purchased with the intention to build a new 300-bed hospital.
2002—September
SJRMC—South Bend is named Top Orthopedic Hospital in Indiana by Healthgrades
for the second year in a row.
2002—November
SJRMC “gifts” St. Mary Medical Plaza to
the Logan Center.
2003—June
Plymouth breaks ground on a new Surgery Wing. The expansion
will add four new and larger operating room suites, state-of-the-art
equipment and a private entrance.
The Wound Healing Center moves to SJRMC-Mishawaka
and increases patient volume in the first several months. The hospital
installs area’s only hyperbaric chambers.
2003—July
Saint Joseph Health Center wins the Nova
Award from the American Hospital Association. The health center was
one of only five award winners nationally.
Saint Joseph Health Center
opens prenatal clinic to treat low-income women.
2003—September
Saint Joseph Health Center wins the Leighton Award from the Community
Foundation of Saint Joseph County.
SJRMC—South Bend is awarded Top Orthopedics
Hospital in the state of Indiana by HealthGrades for the third year
in a row.
H.O.P.E. Newborn Transport is now available to transport infants
from Mishawaka and Plymouth to the South Bend’s neonatal intensive
care unit.
