At Saint Joseph Cancer Institute, we specialize in the diagnosis and treatment of all forms of cancer. Both of our locations—in South Bend and in Plymouth—offer a complete continuum of care, from preventive education and early detection through recovery and support.

Our newest location at 707 East Cedar Street in South Bend houses several area “firsts” in cancer care. Our Patient Navigator is available to assist patients through every step of their cancer treatment, answering questions and helping them to make appointments.

The on-site Concierge enables patients to relax in our comfortable lobby, enjoy a snack at the cafe or do some research in our library while they are waiting to see their physician. The Concierge will notify the physician’s office of your arrival, give you a pager (similar to what you see in restaurants) and then page you when the doctor is ready to see you.

Another key feature of the Cancer Institute is The Image Recovery Center™. Part of a national program, The Image Recovery Center strives to help patients understand and prepare for the appearance changes that may occur during chemotherapy, radiation therapy or surgery.

“The Image Recovery Center has specialized products that are designed with the cancer patient in mind. We can help normalize their physical appearance,” explained Kim Dalton, Image Recovery Center Coordinator. “Being a cosmetologist for over 20 years has shown me that a positive self-image can really boost a person’s outlook.” The Image Recovery Center provides educational and aesthetic tools to help enhance patients’ lives and appearances while undergoing treatment and beyond.

A clinical background is a big plus for Michelle Kindem, Front Desk Coordinator and Clinical Assistant in Image Recovery. “When patients come in for fittings and consultations I am here to explain products, answer questions, and most of all support them through the body image changes they are experiencing. My goal at Image Recovery is for each patient to have a positive experience while enhancing their self image.”

The Image Recovery Center offers massages, facials, wig fitting, haircuts, manicures and breast fittings, and carries items specifically designed for cancer patients, such as special skin care products, hats, turbans, swimsuits, camisoles, breast prostheses and bras.

The Saint Joseph Cancer Institute in Plymouth opened in 1999. It houses both radiation and chemotherapy under one roof. It was designed with the patient’s utmost comfort in mind-with large windows overlooking the peaceful countryside and private treatment rooms.
