Genetics and Risk Assessment Center

The Genetics and Risk Assessment Center at the Saint Joseph Cancer Institute is the only one of its kind in the area. The staff works with recently diagnosed patients to help provide them information on their diagnosis, determine the likelihood that the cancer is inherited, discuss options for early identification and risk reduction, to coordinate genetic testing and provide accurate interpretations of the results.

Services available include:

  • Genetic consultation.
  • Genetic testing for hereditary cancers.
  • Risk assessment for individuals and their families.
  • Affiliations with community support groups.
  • Educational opportunities and information for the community and for medical professionals.
  • Cancer screening recommendations for individuals and their families.
  • Research opportunities.

Self-referrals are accepted. Many insurance companies will cover all or a portion of the cost of genetic testing. Individuals can contact the genetics center Monday through Friday, from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., by calling (574) 237-7878 or 1-877-ONC-GENE (877-662-4363).
