Our Services at South Bend
Oncology/Cancer
Saint Joseph Regional Medical Center’s inpatient oncology unit is located on the sixth floor of the South Bend hospital. It is a 29-bed unit with 21 private rooms.
The staff is comprised of R.N.’s, L.P.N.’s and patient care providers all trained in the special care of patients with cancer. All of the nurses on 6 North attend the Oncology Nursing Society chemotherapy/biotherapy provider course in order to administer medications to our patients. This course is nationally recognized and provides a comprehensive overview of the knowledge needed to administer chemotherapy treatment.
We us a multidisciplinary team approach to patient care. The team of experts includes the nurses, the physician, an oncology clinical nurse specialist, an oncology case manager, an oncology chaplain, an oncology dietician, an oncology pharmacist and physical, occupational and speech therapists. The goal of the team’s care is to provide excellent care and management of the cancer, its treatments and side effects, to allow the patient the highest quality of life.
