Cancer Registry
The Cancer Registry is a computerized system designed for the collection of information about cancer patients who are initially diagnosed or treated at Saint Joseph Regional Medical Center.
A comprehensive summary for each cancer patient is prepared by a certified cancer registrar. This summary contains information about the history of the patient that might contribute to the current condition, the findings by the physician, diagnostic findings, the stage or progression of the cancer, and the therapy or treatment that is being administered to the patient. All of this information is taken from the patient’s medical record and entered into the cancer registry database.
Indiana state law mandates all cases of malignant disease diagnosed in Indiana be reported to the Indiana State Cancer Registry. Collected data is used to apply appropriate preventive and control measures and also used to conduct epidemiologic surveys of cancer clusters.
The Cancer Registry at Saint Joseph Regional Medical Center is committed to preserve the confidentiality of patient information at all times. Any information that is shared with a state or national database will never contain any personal information.
