Family Medicine Center: Welcome to our practice

Saint Joseph Regional Medical Center—Family Medicine Center has been established to provide a source of medical care for members of our community. It also provides for the Family Medicine-licensed resident physician to expand his or her educational background under the supervision of an experienced, board-certified, family physician. The facility is a model Family Medicine office that provides all of the services of a private family physician’s office. Patients are accepted upon medical need as openings become available.

You will be assigned to a licensed physician who will provide you and your family with ongoing healthcare. This is the doctor you will see when you have an appointment, and you will usually see the same doctor for one to three years while he or she is in the Family Medicine Residency Program.

Telephone calls

We encourage you to call when you have questions or medical problems. The earlier in the day you call, the more likely we can accommodate a same-day appointment as necessary. The office staff will relay your telephone call to a physician or nurse, who will return your call at their earliest convenience.

Insurance

We file claims for most insurance companies, including Medicare and Medicaid. Our physicians participate with numerous insurance companies. Our office staff can assist you in determining your individual insurance requirements.

It will be necessary for you to provide your insurance card at the time of your visit so that we can keep a copy on file. This will enable us to handle most insurance billing matters for you.

Please remember that insurance is considered a method of reimbursing the patient for fees paid to medical providers and is not considered a substitute for payment. It is your responsibility to pay any unpaid balance, deductibles and co-payments promptly.

Prescriptions and refills

All prescriptions and authorization for refills should be requested BEFORE you are in danger of running out of your medication. For your convenience, you may call our prescription hotline at (574) 239-6153 and leave a detailed message for our pharmacy office, which will seek physician approval and call your medicine in within 48 business hours.

Emergency care

In the event of an emergency or serious problem after business hours, your physician or the physician on call is available by contacting our answering service at (574) 237-7015. If your doctor directs you to the Emergency Department for care, be sure to take with you a complete list of current medications, dosages and instructions.

Fees and payments

We make every effort to keep down the cost of your medical care. One way is to reduce the cost of billing, and we ask that you pay for your services at the time they are rendered. For your convenience, we do accept VISA, MasterCard and American Express.

So that we may serve you better

  • New patients should arrive 15 minutes earlier than the scheduled appointment time to complete necessary paperwork.
  • Notify our office immediately if you are unable to keep your appointment for any reason. This will enable others to be seen in your time slot.
  • Please be prompt for your appointments, this will help to reduce the waiting time when delayed arrivals put the physician behind.
  • Finally, when scheduling your appointment, tell our staff exactly why you need to be seen so that enough time can be allowed for your appointment.
