Saint Joseph Cancer Center in Plymouth

The Saint Joseph Cancer Center is Marshall county’s only hospital-based cancer center offering both chemotherapy and radiation therapy in the same location.

The Cancer Center can diagnose and treat all forms of cancer. Any supplemental testing (computerized tomography scans, MRIs, bone scans, etc.) can be performed in the hospital, preventing the patient from having to drive to another location. Other hospital services, including access to a dietitian for nutrition consultations, is another added benefit.

Located in a woodland setting, Saint Joseph Regional Medical Center—Plymouth and the Saint Joseph Cancer Center provides patients a quiet, tranquil setting during for patients’ treatment and recovery. Patients receiving chemotherapy do so in a room with glass windows that look out onto a green landscape and forest scene. Deer have been known to graze in the area. Patients also relax in a large leather recliner for their comfort during their treatment.

The radiology side of the Cancer Center has a large bore computerized tomography scanner to address the special needs of radiation therapy simulation and planning for cancer patients. Breast cancer patients may now be positioned for treatment with one or both arms sufficiently raised out of the therapy field to optimize the radiation beam placement. The accompanying software for the new scanner greatly reduces simulation times and increases positional accuracy of patient set-up at the time of treatment. This new technology allows a patient with Hodgkin’s to be positioned with elbows uncompromisingly flexed in the ideal position for successful treatment. This position can be challenging at best on a conventional CT scanner. For added patient confidence and convenience, a radiation oncologist is on staff for consultation and treatment.

While the equipment and the building are state-of-the-art, it is the dedication and quality of the staff that really sets the Cancer Center apart.
