What does the rehabilitative process involve?
Each patient is first evaluated medically by a physiatrist. Then, after a multidisciplinary assessment, an individualized treatment program is designed with the cooperation of the patient, his or her family and a rehabilitation case manager. Long and short-term goals are set, and an estimated length of stay is established. Certainly, the occurrence of a disabling accident or the onset of illness affects not only the patient, but the patient’s family as well.
More than 80 percent of our patients return home, so family involvement in the therapy and treatment process is essential. Making them active, informed participants engages more of their support, which is necessary for successful discharge planning. Patients discharged from the Comprehensive Inpatient Rehabilitation Center are offered a number of continuing therapy programs in our Outpatient Rehabilitation Center. Patients referred from other institutions may also come here, or they may return to the referring institutions for further treatment.
