Partners provide $10,000 in gift cards to families in need

MISHAWAKA, Ind. (Oct. 29, 2020) — COVID-19 has changed many aspects of daily life for Michiana community members, from health concerns to job loss. In the middle of already challenging times, some women face the additional weight of a breast cancer diagnosis. For women already facing unemployment and the related loss of health insurance, the added expenses related to necessary treatment can make it challenging to provide necessities, such as food.

During October, in recognition of Breast Cancer Awareness Month, Saint Joseph Health System (SJHS), in partnership with the Paqui and Brian Kelly Comprehensive Breast Center, the Kelly Cares Foundation and Meijer, identified 10 families in need of assistance. These partners distributed $10,000 in Meijer gift cards to breast cancer survivors. These funds will help families put food on the table, clothes on kids' backs and some relief during difficult times.
