Wound Healing Center recognized with national award

The Wound Healing Center at Saint Joseph Health System Plymouth Medical Center earned the Robert A. Warriner III, M.D., Center of Excellence award from Healogics, the nation's largest provider of advanced wound care services. The center received the award for achieving patient satisfaction rates higher than 92 percent and a healing rate of at least 91 percent in less than 30 median days to heal, for a minimum of two consecutive years. The award is named for Dr. Robert A. Warriner III, a pioneer in wound care and the former chief medical officer for Healogics.

“Wound care is a team sport, and this is great recognition of all the hard work and dedication of our team and staff, and the outstanding clinical outcomes we have achieved,” said Scot Stepleton, Wound Healing Center program director. “We are excited to earn this award as we strive to continue to provide the best care, treatment and outcomes possible while working together to improve the health of our community.”

It is estimated that 6.7 million people in the U.S. are affected by chronic wounds fueled by the increasing rate of diabetes, obesity and the late effects of radiation therapy. The Wound Healing Center offers wound care to patients suffering from diabetic ulcers, pressure ulcers, infections and other chronic wounds which have not healed in a reasonable amount of time. Advanced treatments include negative pressure wound therapy, bio-engineered skin substitutes, hyperbaric oxygen therapy, biological and biosynthetic dressings and growth factor therapies.

The Wound Healing Center is a member of the Healogics network of nearly 700 Wound Care Centers, with access to benchmarking data and proven experience treating approximately 2.5 million chronic wounds.
