Surgical weight loss

If medications or nutrition plans are not providing the desired results, then bariatric surgery is an option. For many patients, common surgical procedures can help you experience substantial weight loss with long-term success rates for keeping it off. These surgical procedures include:

Gastric sleeve surgery, often called a sleeve gastrectomy, involves reducing the stomach’s size to support weight loss. During the procedure, the surgeon removes a large section of the stomach, leaving behind a narrow, tube-shaped sleeve. Because this sleeve can hold significantly less food, typically up to 80% less than before, patients feel full with smaller portions.

Today, many bariatric procedures are performed using robotic-assisted technology. In this approach, the surgeon operates from a nearby console, guiding a high-definition camera and specialized miniaturized instruments. The robotic system enhances precision, allows for highly controlled movement and gives the surgeon a magnified view of the surgical site.

Traditional surgeries often require larger incisions, but laparoscopic, or minimally invasive, techniques use slender instruments and a small camera to operate through tiny entry points. This approach typically leads to less pain after surgery, a shorter hospital stay, quicker healing and improved cosmetic results because the incisions are much smaller.
