Athletic Trainers
Athletic training encompasses the prevention, examination, assessment, treatment and rehabilitation of emergent, acute or chronic injuries that occur to athletes and the physically active.
When SJHS athletic trainers serve your school, you receive not only the athletic trainer but also access to the whole team and its wealth of knowledge. If your assigned athletic trainer is unable to attend an event, we will provide additional athletic trainers to help cover your event.
Whether delivering emergency care or therapeutic exercise for the physically active, athletic trainers provide appropriate care for the injury. The athletic trainer is the first responder for many situations on an athletic field. They have access to post-injury concussion evaluations. Athletes diagnosed with concussions are taken safely through treatment and into the return-to-play protocol. They communicate with the school nursing staff to facilitate the transition between the school-day and athletic practices.
As part of the SJHS system of care, athletic trainers have access to the resources at the Sports Medicine Institute. Christopher Jordan, MD, ATC, and Stephen Simons, MD, FACSM, David Johnson, DO, Jordan Geroski, DO, provide physician consultation and care if needed.
