Three blocks are dedicated throughout residency to Emergency Medicine. Two 4‐week rotations in Emergency Medicine are required during the 1st and 3rd years of residency training.  Residents take part in a 4-week rotation solely dedicated to pediatrics during their 2nd year of residency. Emergency Department physicians supervise the residents while teaching techniques necessary to provide care in an emergency room setting. Residents are expected to evaluate and provide care to all levels of patients. The rotation is done in the Emergency Department of Saint Joseph Regional Medical Center at either the Mishawaka or Plymouth campuses.

Residents have opportunity to learn procedural skills including, but not limited to:

  • Laceration repair
  • Basic and advanced life support

  • Endotracheal intubation

  • Arthrocentesis
